Stephen Gilbert, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Newquay, who has been campaigning for tighter controls for lap dancing clubs, has welcomed the news that the Government is to change the licensing laws to prevent further growth in the number of venues offering adult entertainment.

The three new Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidates in Cornwall have hit-out at David Cameron during his visit to Cornwall . They have accused the Conservative leader of "crying crocodile tears" and being "absent without leave" when crucial issues affecting Cornwall were debated, and they have called on the Conservative party leader to "apologise".

Local Liberal Democrat members in Newquay were today joined by the town's MP Dan Rogerson, former MP Paul Tyler and Parliamentary candidate Stephen Gilbert, for the official opening of the party's first ever permanent office in Newquay.

Commenting on the news that Lib Dem led Restormel Borough Council is to introduce weekly collections for recycling, Stephen Gilbert, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for St Austell & Newquay, said: "Restormel is leading the way on recycling, and I hope that in time the rest of Cornwall will follow."

Commenting on the news that Newquay is to benefit from an increased rail service from the end of the year, Stephen Gilbert, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for the town, said "This is good news for Newquay and will be a real boost for rail users. The next step in the campaign is to secure the land necessary to increase Newquay's platform capacity."

Liberal Democrats in Newquay are to press Restormel Borough Council to review the number of adult entertainment licences in the town in response to a rapid growth in the number of venues offering nude dancing.
