World Lifesaving Championships

Stephen Gilbert, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Newquay, has welcomed the news that the town will be hosting the World Lifesaving Championships in 2010.

Stephen Gilbert said: "This is fantastic news for Newquay and is in the same league for Cornwall as the Olympics being awarded to London.

"It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us to show Newquay and Cornwall to the rest of the world and will pay lasting dividends for the local economy."
