Stephen Gilbert with the St Austell Deaf Club

Prospective St Austell MP Stephen Gilbert met with the St Austell Deaf Club on Tuesday [25 November] to discuss the issues affecting deaf people in the town and was briefed on the group's plan for a holiday centre that caters exclusively for people with disability.

The Lib Dem candidate said: "The group told me that they feel excluded from mainstream society and need extra help accessing local services, particularly with job advice. I was hugely impressed that the club have worked up detailed plans for a holiday centre that would cater specifically for people with disabilities and I will be working with them over the next few months to get the plans in front of the right people."

Chris Cummins, the Chair of the St Austell Deaf Club said, "We were really pleased that Stephen took the time to come and speak to the group. We think our idea for a holiday centre for people with disabilities would be both a good business for the local area as well as providing much needed employment opportunities for local deaf and disabled people."
