Stephen Gilbert, the Liberal Democrat Prospective MP for St Austell, said: "This is a real blow for the 43 families in Cornwall that are directly affected and will cause widespread concern for everyone else working in the clay industry. We need dramatic action to get the national economy moving again, including the temporary nationalisation of our weakest banks so that they will start lending to businesses again, permanent and immediate income tax cuts so that people in work have more to spend and significant capital projects to give people jobs."
